Willunga Farmers’ Market has been named the best in Australia by the 2021 delicious. Harvey Norman Produce Awards.
The awards, now in their 16th year, recognise the best Australian produce from all over the country and the people behind it.
Willunga Farmers Market (WFM) was announced as the trophy winner for the Outstanding Farmers Market award, which acknowledges a vibrant and
engaging community-focused farmers’ market that displays ‘true authenticity’.
Now in its 20th year of operation, the WFM operates every Saturday in the heart of the historic Willunga township.
It is a place where farmers and specialty food producers from the Fleurieu Peninsula can sell farm-origin and associated value-added specialty foods directly to customers.
Pip Forrester, Chair of the WFM thanked delicious Australia and Award sponsors Harvey Norman for their contribution to the food industry and for celebrating the farmers and producers of Australia, “15 years ago, this sort of thing wouldn’t have happened – it is so important to have this recognition”.
The Willunga Farmer Market has moved to a temporary location in the grounds of the Willunga High School, just 1km north of the Town Square.
Operating the Market in the large, open site for the next 12 months provides clear direction to stallholders, staff, volunteers and shoppers whilst continued uncertainty over the Covid-19 pandemic remains.
Seventeen delicious. trophies were awarded by some of Australia’s most renowned chefs, with winners across four major categories – From the Dairy, From the Earth, From the Paddock and From the Sea.
