Federal election - key dates and Mayo candidates

It’s on. The Federal election date has been set for May 21.

 

Key dates:

 

18 April – last day to enrol to vote or update details on the aec.gov.au website.

 

21 April – last day to nominate as a candidate (by 12pm)

 

22 April – declaration of the candidates and ballot paper position draw

 

9 May – early voting commences

 

18 May – close of postal vote applications

 

21 May – election day

 

 

Candidates

 

Several people have already indicated that they will be a candidate for the seat of Mayo.

 

Sitting member Rebekah Sharkie will recontest the seat for the Centre Alliance Party. She has held the seat since 2016. She first won against her former boss, Liberal MP Jamie Briggs.

 

She then defeated the Liberal’s Georgina Downer at the 2018 by-election and the 2019 general election, increasing her margin each time.

 

Allison Bluck is the Liberal Party candidate. She is a banker with the Commonwealth Bank and former Associate Director with international finance company Deloittes.

 

Marisa Bell is the ALP candidate. She is an intensive care nurse who lives in Kangarilla and a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Federation.

 

Samantha McGrail is the Clive Palmer backed United Australia Party candidate.  She is a disability support worker and is campaigning against mandatory vaccine requirements.

 

Greg Elliot is the Greens candidate for Mayo. He lives in Hawthorndene and is a tutor for indigenous students.

 

Ngarrindjeri Elder Major ‘Moogy’ Sumner is also running for the Greens as a Senate candidate.
