Middleton and the south coast bore the brunt of wild weather across the Fleurieu yesterday, Saturday 12 November, with the caravan park and medical practice going under water.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning at 3.30pm and a thunderstorm saw 60mm of rain dumped in the next two hours.
The Middleton Country Fire Service reported on Facebook that fast flooding of the town had caused significant damage to homes, shops and the caravan park, with water chest deep
It put out a message of thanks to three men who rescued women trapped in a cabin at the caravan park.
“Bravery awards for the day, go to you three.”
Leonie Forde, who identified her mother as one of the rescued women, added her heartfelt thanks.
“This is my mum they are rescuing! I’d love to thanks these guys! And the SES/CFS that helped her afterwards.”
Mill House Medical centre reported that it would have to close its doors until further notice.
“We are currently unable to access our patient records to get phone numbers for those booked in for appointments.”
Finniss MP David Basham visited Middleton on Sunday morning to see the aftermath of the severe weather.
“This morning I have been in Middleton, and the damage is absolutely devastating to houses, businesses and infrastructure. Livelihoods have been seriously impacted.
“I’ve spoken to some locals this morning, and understandably the shock is still very raw.

The Port Elliot Show could not catch a break after postponement of its usual October date due to sodden showgrounds.
“Due to the consistent rain throughout Saturday the Port Elliot Show has made the sad decision to cancel all the Horse Events on Sunday. All animal events on the northern side of the show grounds have been also cancelled.
“However, the show will still go on. The entertainment, trade, all pavilions, and rides will all still go ahead. Due to the reduced events the committee has agreed that entry to the show will be free for all.”
The City of Victor Harbor has warned of water over the roads throughout the town.
Some of the roads affected include Franklin Parade, Albert Place and Waterport Road at the junction with Ocean Road, in Hayborough.
McLaren Vale was also hit with local flooding, the bowling club described as a lake.
The storm caused widespread power outages in McLaren Flat.
South Coast State Emergency Service is still responding to requests for assistance.
