Festival Fleurieu 2021 commences this weekend, starting on Saturday April 3rd in the seaside township of Normanville on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The Opening Event is called Carnival Fleurieu and features live music, kids’ activities, dance, choirs and food & drinks on the Normanville Green. This free, family fun event promises to kick start a great 2 weeks of activities across the region. The event runs from 10am to 4.00pm with performers from both near and afar on the main stage. The opening event also coincides with the Normanville Farmers Market adjacent to the Normanville green so there will be a real buzz in the centre of Normanville on Saturday morning.
Desmond Ford, Board Chairperson says, “We are very excited to get to this stage with a great fun, family event to get the Festival underway after a challenging year of planning during 2020”.
The Festival runs from Saturday April 3rd until Saturday April 17th, inclusive.
Festival Fleurieu is a biennial Festival held within the Yankalilla District Council (Fleurieu Coast) area which encompasses the whole region from coast to hills, agricultural land to scenic landscapes from Myponga to Inman Valley and from Normanville & Yankalilla to Cape Jervis. The inaugural Festival was held in 2003.
Festival Fleurieu Board Chairperson says, “The Festival includes a range of genres including art, music & performance, literature, environment, history & heritage and for the first time there is a strong focus on events for young people”.
Despite the impact of the COVID pandemic the Festival Board are confident the event will attract a lot of interest from the local community and from the wider South Australian community, as people look to intrastate travel in place of overseas travel.
“All our event planning has been done ensuring COVID protocols were followed at all planning meetings and this will continue over the duration of the Festival”
Every event has gone through a thorough assessment to ensure it follows the COVID safe protocols set out by SA Health.
“Our hope is that, after a very challenging year for so many individuals, families, businesses and organisations, the Festival will provide a much-needed tonic”.
