Festival Fleurieu 2021 commenced on Saturday April 3rd in the seaside township of Normanville on the Fleurieu Peninsula, kick starting the 14 day Festival across the district.
This Festival there is a significant focus on youth engagement. With the funding support of Carclew, the Festival Fleurieu is excited to present ONEONE Fleurieu, the flagship youth event of the festival's 2021 program.
Desmond Ford, Festival Chairperson says, “We undertook a project early in 2020 to hear from young people about what they wanted to see in the Festival for them”. “On the back of that project we were successful in gaining funding from Carclew for an event during the Festival”.
“This event has been planned by young people across the region working with experienced artists”, Ford says. “In fact, this will be the first time the Festival has held an event in the Victor Harbor region”.
Launching on Sunday April 11, this unique digital artwork will be projected onto the old Yankalilla RSL building for one night only as part of 'A Night at the Graveyard'. It will also illuminate the face of the Victor Harbor Cinema and be shown at the Fleurieu Visitor Information Centre in Yankalilla during the final week of the festival.
There are also a number of other youth focussed events during the Festival including painting workshops and a series of short plays being presented by the Yankalilla Youth Theatre.
“We are delighted to provide an opportunity for young people to engage with the Festival”.
The Festival runs until Saturday April 17th.
