The Fleurieu is to host a stage of a "new and re-imagined" six-day cycling event January.
Presented by the Santos Tour Down Under, Festival of Cycling will take place from 19-24 January 2021.
There will be a four stage National Road Series Race as well as BMX, cyclo-cross, para-cycling and mountain-biking events.
The Fleurieu will host day three of the road race, on Saturday 23 January.
Riders will start at the d’Arenberg Cube and race through McLaren Vale, Aldinga Beach and Willunga.
The men’s race is 88.2km long. The women will ride for 48.8km.
The stage winners will be decided at the top of the challenging Willunga Hill climb.
Free tickets to the start or finish of the stage will be available from Monday 14 December at https://www.tourdownunder.com.au/ticketing.
Onkparinga Mayor Erin Thompson describes the opportunity for the Fleurieu to host day three of the event as an “honour”.
Day one of the road race will take place from Seppeltsfield to Tanunda.
Stage two is in the Adelaide Hills (Birdwood to Lobethal) and day four is at Victoria Park in the city.
