Fishers rejoice: shore-based fishing comes to Myponga Reservoir Reserve from today (Saturday 7 December).

No permit is required to fish at the reserve today, to celebrate the first day of the reservoir being open for fishing. However from tomorrow (Sunday 8 December), permits will be required.

An annual pass is available for $33, while 10-day passes are available for $20, and 3-day passes for $10. Passes can be purchased online here.

Permits are required for all fishers aged 17 and over. Children aged up to 16 don't need a permit but must be accompanied by a permit holder.

Fishers are free to enter the water however must not wade in past knee height. Please use rod and reel fishing (ie. leave your nets or yabby traps at home). Allowing fishing from vessels such as kayaks at the reservoir is still under consideration.

Any fish caught can be taken home for cleaning (don’t clean them at the reserve) or returned alive to the water, with the exception of Carp, Redfin and other non-native species. Please remove them from the site and dispose of them appropriately.

Other activities available at Myponga Reservoir Reserve include walking, riding or running around the 3.3 km looped track, picnicking and opportunities to spot 120 bird species and wildlife such as kangaroos.
