Flaggies send a reminder to the Southern Football League competition

Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill reminded the competition that they’re still in the hunt for a seventh straight flag after defeating ladder-leader Reynella by 19 points on Saturday during round 10 action of the Southern Football League (SFL). The Falcons hosted the Wine Flies at ‘Flaggies’ and the home side started well to lead by 17 points at quarter time, before Reynella worked their way into the game to lead by 11 points at the last change, and their undefeated streak looked set to continue. Flagstaff Hill had other ideas as they kicked 5.3 to 0.3 in the final quarter to win 13.12 (90) to 10.11 (71). ‘Flaggies’ shared the goals around with Daniel Butcher, Blake Aldridge, Tynan Carney and Ryan Mountford kicking two goals each. Callan Semple (4), Jack Ball (2) and Brad Potter (2) were the main goalkickers for Reynella. Best for the Falcons were Michael Shearer, David Kearsley, Aldridge, Mitchell Johnson and Luke Beenham. Reynella were best served by Semple, James Smith, Bailey Marshman, Marc Borholm and Robert Irra.


Cove Cobras kept their finals hopes alive with a 39-point win against Aldinga at Hallett Cove on Saturday. Aldinga started the better of the two sides as they took a five-point lead at the first change. The Cobras found their groove in the second term as they kicked six goals to two and took a handy 23-point lead at halftime. The second half was pretty even before the Cobras won 10.10 (70) to 5.9 (39). James Farrugia was named best for Cove and he was well supported by Scott Grieve, Nick Battista, Jake McCreery and Michael Galley. Best for Aldinga included Bailey Pilmore, Matthew Beinke and Ryder Kortman. Grieve and Jayden Morton were the only multiple goalkickers for the game with three goals each for the Cobras.


Morphett Vale maintained fifth spot on the ladder with a comprehensive 117-point win against bottom side Port Noarlunga at Morphett Vale. The Emus led by just 12 points at quarter time, before kicking 19 goals to three in the final three quarters to win 22.19 (151) to 4.10 (34). Denis Iljcesen kicked seven goals for Morphett Vale and he was ably assisted by Daniel Noble with six. Ashley Baxter kicked two goals for the Cockle Divers. Liam Corrie was named best for the Emus with other good players being Scott Carpenter, Robert Schindler-Taylor, Aiden Baker and Iljcesen. For Port Noarlunga, Phil Brown, Kyle Wright and Alex McKay battled hard against the odds.


Noarlunga banked another two points to stay in second spot with a comfortable 45-point win at Christies Beach. The Shoes took a handy 21-point lead to halftime and extended their margin with six goals to three in the second half to win 15.20 (110) to 9.11 (65). Jaidan Kappler continued his excellent season for the Shoes with a best-on-ground performance. Kappler was joined in the best players by Tom Mott, Callum Gaspari, Daniel Buechter and Luke Ross. Best players for the Saints included Aidan Coakley, Jacob Crate and Josh Semmens. Tom Anderson and Michael Balas kicked three goals each for Noarlunga, while Blake Carter slotted four majors for ‘Christies’.
