Flagstaff Hill first to qualify for SFLW Grand Final

Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill handed 2021 minor premier Reynella its first loss of the season, and in the process reached their second consecutive Grand Final in the Southern Football League Women’s (SFLW) competition. Reynella went into the game as favourites but Flagstaff Hill had the bonus of playing at home. The home side came out of the blocks fast to take a handy 14-point lead at quarter time. Reynella kicked the only goal of the second quarter to reduce the margin to eight points at halftime. ‘Flaggies’ were struggling to score as the Wine Flies again kicked the only goal of the third term to turn for home just three points in arrears. Flagstaff Hill steadied in the last, adding their first goal since quarter time while keeping Reynella goalless, as the Falcons won 3.4 (22) to 2.1 (13) in a classic tight finals game. Isobel Dyson kicked two goals for Flagstaff Hill and Soriah Moon kicked one. Reynella’s goalkickers were Emily Franklin and Emily Woods. Best players for the Falcons were Emily Erickson, Dyson, Moon, Chloe Meyers and Shay’Lee Dayman. Olivia Gallio, Renee Wurfel, Madison Bennett, Anja Bancevic and Jessica Redigolo were named best for the Wine Flies.

Cove has progressed to the Preliminary Final following their come-from-behind seven-point win against Christies Beach in Sunday’s first semi-final at Morphett Vale. Christies Beach started well to lead by nine points at halftime but the ‘premiership quarter’ would prove the difference as Cove poured on the pressure as they added 3.5 to 0.0 to turn for home with a handy 14-point buffer. ‘Christies’ battled hard in the final term to kick two goals to one but it wasn’t enough as the Cobras prevailed 6.7 (43) to 5.6 (36). Emma Fitzpatrick kicked three goals for Cove while Jaime Norup, Dana O’Brien, Felicity Oliver, Fitzpatrick, Samantha Franson and Lauren Pattimore were named their sides best players. Nicole Campbell kicked two goals and was named best for the Saints. Other good players for her side were Melanie Koster, Daisy Crowe, Angelique Dean, Rachael Farlam and Talia Vivar.
