With severe weather and further heatwaves forecast for large parts of the state during Friday and over the weekend, the South Australian State Emergency Service (SES) is advising the public to get prepared to minimise the potential impacts.

Liz Connell, SES Acting Chief Officer, says now is the time to prepare ahead of the forecast severe weather.

“We know severe weather events can have a large impact on communities and we urge people to prepare themselves and their properties now,” she says.

“Trampolines have a reputation of getting themselves in places where they shouldn’t during windy weather, so make sure you secure them—along with other loose items

around your property—to stop them from being blown away and causing damage.

“As further heatwaves are also forecast, make sure you drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and take steps to keep cool, such as creating a ‘cool room’ in your home and

avoiding going out during the hottest part of the day.”

“With rain also expected across many parts of the state, where it’s safe to do so, clear your gutters, downpipes and drains to prevent water damage to your property.

“Be mindful of where you park your vehicles or set up your campsites if you’re travelling around the state—park your cars under cover and well away from trees, and avoid

camping in creek beds.

“Sandbags are available for the community across a number of locations, which can be found on our website.

“The SES has moved to a heightened level of preparedness in anticipation of the forecast severe weather.

“If you require emergency SES assistance, call 132 500. Our volunteers are ready to respond and keep the community safe.”
