Fleurieu-based construction businesses need to build themselves some new trophy cabinets, after winning big at the annual Housing Industry Association awards.

Victor Harbor-based home designer and builder South Coast Constructions scooped the prize pool, claiming four top awards at the presentation dinner held in Adelaide on 9 November.

Strathalbyn-based businesses Aaron Martin Construction and SpaceCraft Joinery also picked up an award each.

South Coast Constructions' category wins included:

- Lightweight construction for a home at Belair.

- Custom Built home $550,000-$800,000 for a new home in the heritage area of The Strand, Port Elliot.

- Best Renovation/Addition $400,001-550,000 for an extension at McLaren Vale.

- Residential Building Design for a home at Goolwa built on a challenging tiny block near the railway line.

The judges spoke in glowing terms about the quality of the workmanship by South Coast Constructions.

“A well designed home for the complexity of the site with good usage of new and recycled materials. The designer was able to exceed all the clients’ expectations,” the judges said of the project at Goolwa.

“The best word to describe this home was impeccable. Every attention to detail has been paid with a beautiful outcome,” they wrote about the Belair home.

Director Jamie Knott paid tribute to the South Coast Constructions team, including the contractors who assist in making the projects into a reality.

“This raft of awards clearly demonstrates that you don’t need to go to the big city builders to get quality designs and construction.

“We have been building homes in South Australia for more than 30 years with a focus on quality, so it’s wonderful that our team gets some recognition for this passion and the dreams they bring to life.”

Aaron Martin Construction of Strathalbyn won the Country Builder award. The judges described the company's entry as a, "unique design with a modern twist on an old barnyard design with good use of materials and excellent finishes. This house is a delight."

The company has been building beautiful forever homes for families in Strathalbyn and the Adelaide Hills for more than a decade.

Fellow Strathalbyn business SpaceCraft Joinery took out the Kitchen Design award. According to the judges, "the designer's keen eye and attention to detail enabled this stunning kitchen to be produced. With the clever use of timber on the island bench helped create a beautiful space for the client to cook and entertain."
