Six childcare centres across the Fleurieu had to close temporarily this week, due to COVID-19 cases amongst staff and children.

More than 50 centres were closed across the state yesterday, according to the

Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.

The affected local centres are:

Victor Harbor Childcare and Education Centre

Aldinga Kinder Haven

Galilee Catholic School OSHC

McLaren Vale OSHC

Seaford District Community Children’s Centre

Where We Grow Early Learning Centre Strathalbyn

The closures come as the Australian Education Union threatens strike action if the state government doesn’t extend the school holidays for two weeks.

The Minister for Education John Gardner says details about how close contacts in the classroom will be managed will be disclosed later this week.

He said having students on holidays for additional two weeks would put a significant burden on parents and the economy and damage students’ education.
