The District Council of Yankalilla, in partnership with the Normanville Natural Resource Centre (NNRC), has been successful in gaining a $10,000 grant to implement its Normanville Dunes Biodiversity Action Plan.
The council has been working on coastal projects in partnership with Landscape SA and the NNRC for over ten years.
The dunes project will continue this partnership as well as engaging the greater community through several initiatives.
The project will implement priority actions from the Southern Fleurieu Coastal Action Plan and the Normanville Dunes Biodiversity Action Plan and includes a community education program.
Volunteers through the NNRC will propagate local native plants at the council’s Yankalilla Community Nursery and will participate in community planting events.
They will focus on revegetating degraded areas of the dunes and planting key coastal woodland species.
The project will also include local native plant swaps for people removing Gazanias from their gardens.
