The Fleurieu & Districts Junior Boys Cricket team won the under 16’s SACA Representative Carnival yesterday following a 27-run victory in the final against a gallant Barossa & Light combination. The win completes a perfect carnival for the Fleurieu boys with five wins from as many games. Fleurieu & Districts batted first at Duncan Fraser Reserve and were off to a shaky start as they slipped to 3/43 with Tanner King (9), Lochie Nash (8) and Felix Gadomski-Mott (1) all back in the sheds. This brought Thursday’s semi-final heroes Charlie Morbey and Rilee Endersby together and once again their partnership would prove crucial. The pair put on 49 runs for the fourth wicket before Morbey was dismissed for 30 (82 balls). Jack Roberts (8) joined Endersby in adding a further 43 runs as Fleurieu & Districts finished on 6/160 from their 40 overs. Endersby went on to make a fine 54 not out (96 balls) and the total was boosted by a whopping 41 extras. Tom Giles took 2/40 (8) for Barossa & Light.

Barossa & Light got off to a good start with the dangerous Ryan Dimasi (13) and the solid Harry Maher (19) putting on 25 for the first wicket before Dimasi was dismissed after a sharp catch by Morbey at square leg from the bowling of Endersby (1/23). King (1/9) came on and claimed the wicket of Maher in his first over and the game was evenly poised at 3/69. Barossa & Light skipper Will O’Brien, who had already made over 200 runs for the week, loomed as the big wicket as he moved to 39 from 40 balls before off-spinner Lochie Nash (2/17) dismissed him via another excellent catch by Morbey, this time from a full blooded pull shot at mid wicket. The Fleurieu boys were up and about as Barossa & Light slipped to 4/97, still 64 runs from victory. Leg-spinner Finn Sullivan-Llewellyn (3/11) came into the attack and along with ‘spin-twin’ Nash, the two of them spun a web the Barossa & Light players couldn’t escape. The last seven wickets fell for just 36 runs as they were bowled out for 133 in the 39th over. Fleurieu used nine bowlers with seven of them taking wickets including Roberts (1/13) who finished off the match by dismissing the final Barossa & Light batsman.

Tanner King was the leading run scorer for Fleurieu & Districts with 267 runs at an average of 66.75 while Rilee Endersby led the bowlers with nine wickets at an average of 11.22. It was another great result for Fleurieu & Districts who also won the title last season. Much credit needs to go to coach Kent Llewellyn, team manager Linda Long and all of the parents and volunteers.
