Fleurieu & Districts won their second game of the Senior Country Cup with a high scoring three-wicket victory over South East at Stockwell Oval yesterday. The win saw the Fleurieu & Districts side finish second in their pool to just miss out on a berth in the Final on net run rate. South East won the toss and decided to bat but were soon in trouble at 2/16 with Fleurieu opening bowler Troy Blackwell taking the first two wickets. Mark Smith (46) and Connor Prior (28) added 62 runs for the third wicket before three quick wickets to Aaron Zrim (3/39) put South East back under pressure at 5/99. Skipper Nick McInerney joined Alex Hentschke as South East took control of the innings with an 82-run sixth wicket stand before McInerney was dismissed for 28 off 43 balls. Hentschke continued on to make 102 off 82 balls with 10 boundaries and four maximums. South East were eventually bowled out in the 50th over for 239. Blackwell took two more wickets in his second spell to finish with 4/35 (9.3) while John Zadow took 2/46 (7).

The Fleurieu & Districts run chase got off to a shaky start as Jared Marston (6) and Mitch Weeks (2) were dismissed to leave the score at 2/27. Ben Matthews was joined by Zrim and the match was turned on its head as Zrim went on the attack to smash a quickfire 74 from 44 balls including 10 boundaries and four sixes. This pair added 123 runs for the third wicket as Matthews continued on to top score with 86 off 99 balls (10 x 4’s). Matthews put on 59 runs for the fifth wicket with Frank Clements (42 off 44 balls) as the Fleurieu side took control of the match. The target was eventually reached for the loss of seven wickets with 11.1 overs to spare. 

Fleurieu & Districts will take on Eyre Peninsula at South Gawler in their final match today while the Final will be played between Yorke Peninsula and Barossa & Light at Tanunda.
