One of the Fleurieu’s favourite strips is one of just three finalists in the annual Mainstreet SA People’s Choice awards.
Old Coach Road in Aldinga is up against Jetty Road, Glenelg, and Prospect Road, Prospect, in the awards, run by not-for-profit organisation Mainstreet SA.
According to the nomination, Old Coach Road has enjoyed a resurgence of community spirit over the last few years with the establishment of about 20 new retail, hospitality and service businesses.
The road is a hub for visitors and locals looking for a coffee, something fresh out of the oven at Home Grain Bakery, or some retail therapy.
There are some exciting new developments on their way to Old Coach Road, with Aldinga Hotel currently undergoing a major upgrade to its dining room and outdoor areas in addition to its recently opened new bottle shop. A microbrewery from Deadset Brewing Company is also under construction.
There are a number of live music and events venues including Cooee Arthouse, Peppertree Cafe and The Secret Garden.
Last summer, Fridays After Five was a regular party during the summer, with Old Coach Road coming alive with live music, market stalls and food trucks.
Mainstreet SA is a not-for-profit organisation which celebrates and provides professional development and networking opportunities for people involved in developing and marketing mainstreets.
The Mainstreet SA Awards have been running since 2011. Last year’s winner was Prospect Road, Prospect, so they are looking for back-to-back wins this year. Past winners include Stirling Adelaide Hills and Semaphore Road.
Voting closes on Friday 6 November.
The awards are normally presented at a Gala Dinner, but in 2020 there will instead be an Awards Breakfast at the Lion Hotel on Thursday 26 November.
