Two Fleurieu producers have been named as South Australian finalists in the Delicious 2020 produce awards.
Finniss Valley’s Nomad Farms and the Goolwa PipiCo were awarded in the From the Paddock and From the Sea categories respectively.
All entrants had to be nominated by a recognised leading Australian chef, who considers them the best of their kind within their category.
A panel of five South Australian judges, which included the Salopian Inn’s Karena Armstrong, chose the state winners in the categories Dairy, Earth, Paddock and Sea.
The produce awards champion Australia’s best and most innovative primary producers and those with an emphasis on provenance, seasonality and sustainable production methods.
Nomad Farms won for their Nomadic Pastured Heritage Chook.
Farmers Tom Bradman and Verity Slee established Nomad on the principles of regenerative farming and are no strangers to awards, taking out two previous Delicious awards, as well as a state Landcare award for Innovation in Sustainable Farm Practices.
They produce 100 per cent grass fed nomadic beef, nomadic pasture-raised meat chickens and100 per cent grass fed nomadic hogget and can be found at the Willunga and Adelaide Farmers Markets.
Goolwa PipiCo won for their Live & Fresh, De-sanded and Ready to Cook Pipis.
The fishing company also operates the Kuti Shack in Goolwa, formerly Bombora Café, in partnership with the Ngarrindjeri people and a group of the Fleurieu's top chefs.
They recently extended its lease with Alexandrina Council and look forward to a return to full operations when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
All the SA winning products will go forward to national judging, where they will be rigorously tested and tasted by the country’s most influential palates before the winners are announced later this year.
