Three Fleurieu golf courses have made the 2020 Ausgolf top 100 list of public access golf courses in Australia.

Links Lady Bay was ranked at #38, with Mount Compass at #42 and New Terry at Wirrina Cove a new entrant to the top 100 at #93.

The list was compiled for The Golf Course Guide, with a panel of 12 judges ranking courses based on design, conditions and aesthetics.

Mount Compass climbed 14 places this year, the judges noting its great conditioning and their improved appreciation of the design and visuals.

“A challenging links-style golf course designed by Neil Crafter of Golf Strategies, Mount Compass Golf Course offers a quality golfing experience for golfers of all standards. 

“Together with a practise putting green, expansive driving range and 18 quality golf holes laid over a gently undulating landscape, peppered with gorse, 89 tight bunkers and a few integrated water features, the course takes advantage of the sandy soils that dominate the area, making effective use of the original topography of the site and is brilliantly maintained.“

Links Lady Bay and Mount Compass also made the Golf Australia magazine top 100 of all Australian golf courses, which includes private courses in its rankings, reaching #70 and #81 respectively.

It is the first time the Mount Compass course has made this prestigious list.

Managing Director Stephen Connor said his team was thrilled to see the rise in rankings for Mount Compass. 

“Since taking over in mid 2016 we have invested in upgrading the course in many ways, with new irrigation equipment, maintenance equipment, golf carts, upgrading the bar and restaurant, a carefully applied program of green, fairway, tree and bunker maintenance and most importantly people.  

“This is great recognition for the efforts of our green keeping team, led by Course Superintendent Philip Tripodi.”
