Surf Life Saving SA recently celebrated the 2024 Awards of Excellence, honoring the remarkable individuals from the Fleurieu region for their outstanding contributions, unwavering commitment, and passion throughout the season. These awards highlight the exceptional spirit of the local surf lifesaving communty.
Athlete of the Year – Maguire Reid (Port Noarlunga SLSC)
Maguire Reid of Port Noarlunga SLSC has been named Athlete of the Year, showcasing an exceptional season filled with numerous triumphs. The hardworking 19-year-old secured nine gold medals, five silver medals, and one bronze across various events at the Senior State Championships in the Open and U19 age categories, including his fourth consecutive win in the open Ironman event. His impressive achievements continued at the Australian Championships, where he claimed gold in the U19 Male Ski and U19 Double Ski races, along with additional silver and bronze medals. Maguire's sportsmanship and dedication to his club and lifesaving duties make him an inspiring role model for younger members.
Congratulations also go to local finalists, Cooper Bristow from Christies Beach SLSC and Katie Natt from Seacliff SLSC, for their outstanding performances and contributions.

Rescue of the Year – Tom & Michael Knauer (Moana SLSC)
On 20 February at Moana Beach, Tom and Michael Knauer of Moana SLSC conducted a heroic double rescue. Alerted by a nipper from Goolwa SLSC, the brothers sprang into action, rescuing a mother and daughter struggling 350 metres offshore in choppy conditions. Their quick intervention and lifesaving skills averted what could have been a tragic drowning. This remarkable rescue was the first mission the brothers completed in their 20 years of patrolling, showcasing their bravery and dedication.

Volunteer of the Year – David Jansen (Normanville SLSC)
David Jansen has been named Volunteer of the Year, celebrating his extensive dedication and service to surf lifesaving. Over the past 18 months, David has transformed Normanville SLSC into a thriving community hub, guiding every stage of the club's reconstruction. As President, Age Group Manager, and Patrol Captain, he has driven significant growth, with memberships tripling to over 700. David's hands-on leadership and passion for lifesaving have made a lasting impact on his club and the broader community.

Official of the Year – Darcy Lines (Port Noarlunga SLSC)
Darcy Lines of Port Noarlunga SLSC has been named Official of the Year, a testament to his dedication and expertise across all age groups and surf sport disciplines. Renowned for his involvement in every carnival and championship this season, Darcy's roles have included area official, competitor liaison, deputy referee, and scrutineer. His cheerful demeanor, approachability, and commitment to fair competition have made a significant impact.
