Fleurieu, KI shows still on trackLocals enjoying the last Port Elliot Show in 2019

The Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island's country shows are scheduled to go ahead, despite the cancellation last week of the Royal Adelaide Show.

As of today, the shows are still scheduled for the following dates:

Yankalilla Show - Saturday October 2.

Strathalbyn Show – Monday October 4 (public holiday)

Port Elliot show - Saturday and Sunday 9 and 10 October.

Kangaroo Island – Saturday October 30

Callington Show – Sunday October 31

Parndana Show – Saturday November 13

Each show society must submit a COVID-19 plan to SA Health before getting approval to go ahead. In the meantime, they face a nervous wait to see if the NSW outbreak spreads to South Australia again.

The Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society took the decision to cancel the Adelaide Show after SA Health said they would be restricted to daily attendances of less than 10 000.

The event, which would have started on September 4, would normally attract more than 50 000 people each day.

The show has run for 182 years and has only previously been cancelled due to the 1852 Victorian gold rush, WW1, the 1919 Spanish Flu pandemic and WWII.  It was also cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Elsewhere in South Australia, the Crystal Brook, Balaklava and Burra shows have already been cancelled and the Port Lincoln and Gawler shows have been postponed.

Gawler’s show is expected to go ahead in November but a new date for the Port Lincoln show is yet to be announced.

The Kadina and Whyalla shows are due to go ahead this weekend.

The Murray Bridge show is still scheduled to go ahead on October 25.

Most country shows, including those on the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island, were cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
