Federal Education Minister Jason Clare officially opened the new Fleurieu Study Hub, located at the Victor Harbor TAFE campus, on Thursday 19 September.
One of several new regional tertiary study centres around Australia, the Fleurieu Hub was announced in March this year.
It followed four years’ work on a business case, funded and led by Regional Development Australia Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island, City of Victor Harbor, District Council of Yankalilla, and Alexandrina Council,
The hub is intended to remove barriers for regional students in accessing high-quality tertiary education, with support from the Rural City of Murray Bridge's existing program the Murray River Study Hub.
It will provide access to Wi-Fi, computers, video conferencing and quiet study areas for local students who study remotely.
There will also be a free space for students to meet with advisors for advice and support on career pathways, industry experience options, how to enrol, extra support resources and remote study expertise.
City of Victor Harbor Mayor Moira Jenkins says the Hub has launched on the Fleurieu at a crucial time.
“Online tertiary education continues to grow in Australia and the Study Hub ensures that students engaging in online learning are well-supported and engaged.
“Importantly, this facility allows students to remain in their communities and connected to family and friends,” she says.
“It can feel like a big task to pursue further study after school, particularly for regional students. The new study hub meets a crucial need for our coastal communities.”
Anyone looking to study at the Hub, or seeking information, should visit the hub website to lodge an Expression of Interest.
