Young people on the Fleurieu have been invited to join a two-day youth climate summit on the south coast next Tuesday 30 May and Saturday 3 June.
Day One, at the Encounter Bay Football Club, will feature speakers with extensive expertise in climate change.
Following a Welcome to Country from Cedric Varcoe, they will discuss what action is being taken in the local community and across South Australia.
Scott Oster from the Department for Energy and Mining will talk about SA Achievements in Renewable Energy and Simon Grenfell from Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority will talk about Waste Management and the Circular Economy.
In the afternoon a facilitated brainstorming session will develop ideas or projects that could tackle climate change in the local area.
Representatives from local community groups will include Grace Kennedy, Coordinator Youth and Community in Conservation Action and Rachel Williams from the Ozfish – Seeds for Snapper Project.
Amber Brock-Fabel, who won the SA Environment Young Achiever Award in 2021 will ask ‘Where to From Here?’
Day Two involves a practical field trip, with buses departing from the Victor Harbor Civic Centre at 9am. Some of the learning and discovery activities include:
