Food waste recycling scales up

The Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA) has introduced a weekly food and organic waste collection service to cafés, restaurants and grocery businesses.

Initially operating in selected areas across the southern Fleurieu, the service is in line with FRWA’s commitment to diverting organic and compostable waste from landfill.

Currently offered in Alexandrina, Victor Harbor and Yankalilla, in future the service will also be available in Kingscote on Kangaroo Island.

The collected green waste will be turned into valuable compost to reduce both business costs and environmental impact.

The  ultimate aim is to improve environmental outcomes for the Fleurieu regional community by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Owners and managers of food service businesses or a business that produces other organic waste such as manure can opt in to the food waste recycling service.

They can save money on disposal costs, recover resources and improve the environmental performance of their business.

For more information visit the FRWA website or call 8555 7405. To apply for the service submit an application form.
