Four-in-a row dream still alive for Flagstaff Hill

Southern Football League Preliminary Final

Flagstaff Hill has kept their dream of a fourth consecutive Southern Football League (SFL) premiership alive with a grinding 10-point victory over a brave Christies Beach in the Preliminary Final at Noarlunga. The Falcons will now take on the all conquering Noarlunga outfit in the Grand Final this Saturday.

It was a tough low scoring first term with Christies taking a narrow three-point lead into the first break. Flagstaff Hill started to get on top in the second quarter and added 5.5 to Christies Beach 3.0 to take a handy 14-point lead at half-time. Christies Beach came out firing after the half-time break to slam on five goals to three and at three quarter time the Saints had edged to a one-point lead. It was a real slog in the final term with both teams having their opportunities around goal but Flaggies finished the better kicking 4.4 to 2.5 to take the game 13.12 (90) to 12.8 (80).

Daniel Webb kicked four and Samuel Smith three goals for the victorious Falcons while Blake Carter, Shaun King and Ryan Parry each dobbed two for Christies. Max Renfrey, David Kearsley and Sam Tharaldsen were best for Flagstaff Hill while Josiah Sheppard, Michael Mazey and King were named as Christies Beach best.

So Flagstaff Hill have the chance at four ‘A’ grade flags in a row as they take on the all conquering, undefeated Noarlunga in Saturday’s Grand Final.
