The Fleurieu Regional Assessment Panel (FRAP) will meet tomorrow, Tuesday 16 August, at 11am in the Alexandrina Council Chambers.

The panel will consider whether a function centre can be built at 1340 Long Valley Road in Strathalbyn and the installation of 35 frost fans at sites in Langhorne Creek and Belvidere.

The proposed Stoney Creek Estate function centre for 1340 Long Valley Road would be in addition to an existing olive oil plantation, residence and outbuildings.

The application is for a maximum of two functions per week, with a maximum of 120 guests.

A new amenities building would be constructed along with carparking for 30 vehicles and signage.

The documentation says the function centre would primarily host weddings that would conclude no later than midnight and mainly be held in existing building on the land with some overspill to the outdoor paved area as required.

Catering would be provided by mobile or food van catering services and guests would supply their own alcohol.

The FRAP has received four representations opposing the development with concerns about noise, alcohol consumption. There are also concerns that the parking space will be inadequate.

The other matter the FRAP is to consider is installation of 35 frost fans across three locations (299 Clements Road, Langhorne Creek, 51 Eckert Rd, Belvidere and 62 Coombe Road, Langhorne Creek).

The fans will be a maximum of 13.5 metres high and be used to minimise frost damage in vineyards.

The applicant says they would likely only be used for about 40 hours each year.

The FRAP has received three supporting submissions and three opposing.

Some of the concerns raised relate to the noise of the fans and their appearance.
