The CBD of Victor Harbor is set for expansion with the City of Victor Harbor exploring further private sector partnerships for the site it owns in McKinlay Street.

This will be in parallel with plans for the Anchorage Hotel redevelopment, which includes a shared parking facility in McKinley Street.

The council has engaged JLL and the Alinea Group to undertake a national expression of interest (EOI) from developers, investors and consortiums to develop a mixed-use facility inclusive of car parking.

It says starting the EOI process aligns with feedback from the community in early 2020, that developers should contribute to the cost of facilities that provide car parking rather than ratepayers.

“Further parking options are a necessity to attract new businesses to the town centre, off-set the loss of parking from urban renewal projects, and cater for new and improved facilities like the Visitor Centre and proposed Arts and Culture Centre.”

The council has been gradually acquiring land in McKinlay Street over several years to address the need for expanding parking facilities in the CBD.

So far it has created an additional 66 car parking spaces in the street to cater for short term demand.

Council planning also flagged the need for multi-level parking within McKinlay Street in order to future proof Victor Harbor so there is capacity for future development, business attraction and growth.

The Anchorage Hotel redevelopment was required to provide 89 parking spaces to gain development approval.

The new development is intended to be seamlessly integrated. The EOI is currently underway and will close on 22 June.

Following this process, the proposals will be collated for Council’s consideration and future direction with a commitment to align with the project delivery ambitions of the Anchorage development.

Full details are on the City of Victor Harbor website.
