The future of the iconic Hopgood Theatre has been assured and is now open to a world of possibility, with the City of Onkaparinga looking for community input.
The theatre has been an integral part of the regional arts community since it opened in 1985, providing an accessible space for local emerging artists to perform, as well as bringing national and international performances to the Fleurieu.
Its future was under threat until the new state government committed to a 25-year lease with the City of Onkaparinga and gave a grant of $6 million for refurbishment.
The main theatre seats almost 500, one of the largest capacities in suburban Adelaide, and is the only professional performing arts centre of this size serving the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The council wants community feedback on future opportunities for the Hopgood Theatre and the programs and services that will ensure its longevity as a community performing arts facility.
It will hold on-site drop-in sessions at the theatre on Tuesday 6 December from 12.30pm to 1.30pm; Thursday 8 December from 5pm to 7pm; and Saturday 10 December from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.
The public consultation period is open until 5pm, Tuesday 3 January and anyone who wants to have a say can do so via email, phone 8384 0666 or on the council website.
