The Adelaide Fringe Festival is taking The Garden of Unearthly Delights to Kangaroo Island for a one night only performance on Monday 17 January. Tickets will be free to all residents the island and bushfire volunteers but must be booked online.
More than 400 tickets were snapped up after the news was announced on Monday 10 February but organisers released another 500 on Tuesday.
The event will be held at the Kingscote Football Club and hosted by Mix 102.3 breakfast presenter Mark Soderstrom.
Comedian and host of ABC TV’s Hard Quiz Tom Gleeson is one of the stars donating his time for the event, along with Frank Woodley (of Lano and Woodley fame) and Markus Birdman, a previous winner of Best of the Fest at the Edinburgh Fringe.
The organisers of the Fringe Festival say the convoy of comedians and circus performers will bring some much-needed laughs and levity following the bushfires. The Garden’s Director, Michelle Buxton, says that all the performers leapt at the chance to be part of the show and that she can’t wait to show them around the island.
Other performers at the event include Georgie Carroll, Taboo’s Harley Breen, Dilruk Jayasinha, comedy crim Heath Franklin’s Chopper, newcomer Nina Oyama and acrobatic acts Brass Monkeys and WERK IT.
