A workshop to introduce local native bees will be held by the Friends of Aldinga Scrub next Sunday 27 February.
It offers the opportunity to learn about the behaviour of native bees which live in Aldinga Scrub and how to identify them.
The workshop will be delivered by Dr Remko Leijs from the SA Museum and Dr Katja Hogendoorn from the University of Adelaide, who are recognised experts in the native bees of South Australia.
It will involve a two hour session at the Aldinga Community Centre where the two will talk about native bees, teach how to distinguish between some bee groups and how to identify native bees.
The second session will involve a field trip in Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park where they will lead groups to look for bees, catch some bees on flowers, and explain about the different flower preferences of native bees.
It will include a visit to the newly installed bee exclosures, to look at the bee hotels, explain the doors, and observe the activity.
The workshop, which will run from 10am to 3pm, is sponsored by the City of Onkaparinga through its Environmental Grants program.
