Good weekend on the diamond for Strathalbyn Softball seniors

Hills Softball Association ‘A’ Grade Women (Strathalbyn v Hills Heat Masters)

Sharon Perkins was the first batter up for Hills Heat Masters and got onto base and made her way around to third but Strath was too strong in the field with shortstop Kim Cutting making an out at first, third baser Peyton Daniels also making an out at first and a K2 to pitcher/catcher Tess Norris to Bianca Pash ended the innings for Masters scoreless. Strath came in to bat and had safe hits to Cutting, Daniels and Rebekah Mayes with Pash hitting a two baser to bring in three runs with Masters making an out at first and a tag out at third for a double play and a K2 to pitcher/catcher Lisa Wilson to Emilie O’Brien.

Masters were again held scoreless with Cutting again making an out at first, Mayes fielding and playing her base at first and another K2 sending them from the diamond. Strath’s safe hits continued with Emily Eglitis and Pash, Cutting with a three baser and Daniels with a home run to right field which helped bring in four more runs with another K2, an out at first and a catch taken in left field by Mis Ausman.

More great fielding by Strath’s Cutting and Daniels into the safe glove of Mayes at first and another K2 had Masters scoreless again in the third. Strath had one run added by Buttsy Milne who hit a three-baser and was brought home by Norris with Masters making an out at first, a K2 and a catch taken by Michelle Davis at centrefield.

Safe hits to Davis and Lauren Christensen in Masters fourth turn at bat produced a run to Davis before Milne, Cutting and Mayes combined for an out at second and first for a double play and Cutting again making a great out at first to end the innings. A three baser to Pash, a walk and great base running by Cutting and great base running by Milne after drawing the fielding error brought home a further three runs with Masters short stop Perkins taking a catch and an out made at first before time and game were called with Strathalbyn being far enough in front on runs with 11 to Masters 1.

Hills Softball Association ‘C’ Grade Women (Strathalbyn v Redsox)

Redsox were up to bat first and had safe hits to Mandy Bottroff, Elisa Heath and Jackie Megson and they brought home two runs with Strathalbyn’s pitcher/catcher combo of Kelly Roe to Amber Crawford getting a K2, Rebecca Sims at third fielding and playing her base for the out and then also taking a catch which ended the innings. Strath came in to bat and had safe hits to Vanessa Kitto and Roe with a two baser to Monica Spriggs which all helped to bring in five runs with Redsox pitcher/catcher Sienna Golder to Megson making a K2 and first baser Molly Rusden taking a catch and then playing her base to catch the runner short of her ground for a double play.

Redsox were held scoreless in their second but had a safe hit to Alexis Golder with an out at first, a catch taken at shortstop by Annabel McGregor and a put out by Crawford now at third. Strath’s second dig produced a home run to Crawford which was the only run for the innings with Redsox making an out at first and short stop Kezza Hardy taking two catches.

Safe hits to Rusden, A. Golder and Melanie Golder in the third turn at bat for Redsox could only bring in one run with Strath making another two outs at first and a play at third to send them from the diamond. Strath were again held to one run by Spriggs who along with Laura Sneath had the only safe hits for the innings with Redsox’s Hardy taking another catch and making the play at second to catch the runner short for a double play and then assisting in another out at second.

Strath did well in the fourth batting dig for Redsox despite safe hits to Heath, Glenys Megson and Rusden making a tag out at second and two K2’s to leave them stranded on base and scoreless. Strath had safe hits to McGregor and Sims with Crawford gaining a two baser and Spriggs a home run to add four runs to the tally with Redsox third baser Glenys Sward taking a catch, a K2 and an out at first to end the innings and the game with the final scores Strathalbyn 11 to Redsox 3.
