Goolwa Beach stuck with 100km/h speed limit as tourists start to arriveThe Goolwa Beach access ramp

Alexandrina Council has cleared the entrance area at Goolwa Beach to enable safe entry and exit for four-wheel drive drivers when the busy tourist season starts.

Despite recent council representations to the state government, the speed limit on the beach remains at 100 kms per hour.

The Department of Infrastructure and Transport’s speed limit guidelines say that the default speed limit on most beaches is 100 kms per hour.

The speed limit on the access ramp is 40 kms per hour.

The council is asking visitors and locals to remember that beach access is for four-wheel drives only and not two-wheel or all-wheel drive cars.

It also warns that from Boxing Day there will be long queues to access the beach.

Last Boxing Day dozens of drivers got bogged trying to get on and off the beach, providing a boon for local tow drivers and entertainment for those watching from the new surf club building.

Drivers need to take care and caution on the beach and watch out for children and dogs. They also need to stay out of the dunes and respect the environment.

People visiting Goolwa Beach should also remember to take all their rubbish with them.
