Alexandrina Council has extended the consultation period on the future of the Customs House in Goolwa.

Originally due to close on 9 January the new deadline for feedback is 5pm on Friday 14 February.

The council is proposing to sell the Customs House - also known as Harbour Masters – for development into hotel accommodation.

The property comprises of two parcels of land owned by Alexandrina Council, which was previously the harbourmaster’s residence.

The historic building, located at the entrance to the newly redeveloped Goolwa Wharf precinct has formerly been used by various community groups.

It is not currently in use and is described by the council as having been in disrepair for many years.

Its financial position does not allow the council to develop the site; hence the suggestion it be sold.

Full details of the sale proposal and how to give formal feedback can be found on the council website.
