Goolwa Magpies on the board in GSCA round two action

Goolwa bounced back after an opening round loss to Noarlunga to defeat Myponga by 83 runs at Goolwa Oval in round two action in the Great Southern Cricket Association on Saturday. The home side won the toss and decided to bat first and after losing Jake Ashton-Place early, Luke Giddings (66) and Andy Evans (74 not out) set about building a large tally for Myponga to chase. The Magpies finished their 40 overs with a competitive total of 4/169. Myponga struggled in the run chase with only Ryan Haverty (34) and Cameron Turner (26) reaching double figures as the visitors were bowled out for just 86. Jayden Crees, Josh Jones, Fred Nissen, James Lawrence and Jarryd Maddern each took two wickets for the victorious Magpies.

Reigning premier Noarlunga have kept their perfect start to the season intact with an impressive nine-wicket victory over McLaren Districts at McLaren Vale. The home side batted first and battled to 9/111 from their 40 overs with only Ben Worrall (32) getting past 13. The Shoes were very tight in the field only conceding three extras, claiming two run outs and sharing the wickets between six bowlers with Jamison Snelling taking 2/23. Despite losing skipper Jason Scarff early, Cam Bullard (77 not out) and Anthony Burgess (29 not out) came together for an undefeated partnership of 102 to see Noarlunga home with 21 overs to spare.

Willunga bounced back from a disappointing opening round loss to defeat Port Elliot by seven wickets at Willunga Oval. Port Elliot won the toss and decided to bat first. Ben Griffiths (23), Colby Whitbourne (18) and Hayden Gordge (17) all made starts in the top order but no-one went on to post a big score as the visitors were restricted to just 113. Simon Roberts (2/15), Sean McIvor (2/16) and Hugo Hoeck (2/26) were the multiple wicket takers for Willunga and the Bloods did themselves no favours with three run-outs. Despite losing three early wickets Luke Harding (43 not out) and Roberts (37 not out off 32 balls) saw the Demons home comfortably with eight overs to spare.

Encounter Bay banked their first win of the season with a crushing nine-wicket victory over a disappointing Mount Compass at Burgess Oval. The home side batted first and could only manage 33 with Rohan Garrard making 24 of those runs. Seven batsmen were dismissed without scoring. Chris Butler (3/8) and Jonah Magor (3/11) were the main destroyers for Encounter Bay. Jason Parry with 28 not out made light work of the run chase, bringing up the winning runs in just the eighth over.
