A forecast of extreme heat has forced cancellation of today’s Christmas Festival at Goolwa.
The Goolwa Community Association announced its decision yesterday, 14 December, to pull the pin on its long planned pageant and community event at Goolwa Oval.
The temperature has been predicted to reach 39 degrees by mid afternoon and remain high into the evening.
Organise Tamara McRobbie says the decision to cancel was not taken lightly.
“We have spent so many hours, literal blood, sweat and tears to get the event from the remnants of the Lions and Rotary past events to this.
“This is only a bump in the road, for those who know us, we are a bunch of motivated, passionate and ‘can-do’ volunteers who have the best interests of the Goolwa community at heart.”
The pageant was due to start at 5pm and was expected to feature 75 floats. It was to be followed by family fun, food and music at the oval.
The Goolwa Community Association promises an even bigger and better event for 2025.
