Goolwa pushing hard for outright victory in GSCA

Goolwa are in a strong position to push for an outright victory against Mount Compass after day one action in round six got underway in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) on Saturday. After being sent in on the turf at Burgess Oval, Goolwa made 7/223 before declaring with 16 overs left in the day. Andrew Evans continued his excellent season for the Magpies to top score with 79. He was ably supported by Josh Jones (36), Fred Nissen (30) and skipper Vic Robertson (26). Aaron Dalitz put in a lion-hearted effort for Mount Compass to finish with the fine figures of 5/74 from 20 overs. The home side collapsed in the last hour to be 4/17 at stumps, still trailing by 206 runs. Jones continued his good day collecting all four wickets on his way to the amazing figures of 4/4 from seven overs.

Port Elliot has posted a competitive day one total of 6/205 against reigning premier Noarlunga on day one of their contest at Port Elliot. The total was set up by an excellent 87-run second wicket partnership between Brodie Whitbourne (50) and Hayden Gordge (33). Teenager Joel Harris continued the good work of that pair by making his highest ‘A’ grade score with a fine 65 not out. Skipper Jason Scarff was the best of the Shoes bowlers finishing with 3/65 (21 overs). Noarlunga never let the run rate get away from them and they’ll be confident of chasing the target down next week to keep their undefeated start to the season going.

Willunga has already taken the first innings points over McLaren Districts and will push for their second outright of the season next week as the game concludes at Willunga. McLaren won the toss and decided to bat first and got off to a solid start reaching 23 before losing Daniel Bruce for 14. After three quick wickets, skipper Stephen Nairn (34) and opening batsman Ben Worrall (20) steadied the ship to see the Crushers to 3/66 before Worrall was unfortunately run out. That led to a collapse of 7/21 which saw the Crushers rolled for just 87 in the 43rd over. Luke Goldner led the way for the Demons with the ball taking the fine figures of 5/27 (14.5 overs). It was Goldner’s seventh five-wicket haul for Willunga. The Demons had 27 overs left to bat on day one and they were keen to get the first innings points before stumps which they achieved but not before losing six wickets. Luke Harding (35) was the only Willunga batsman to pass 15 as his side finished the day at 6/90 with a slender lead of three runs. Daniel Hoskin (2/14) and David Smith (2/18) were the multiple wicket takers for McLaren Districts.

Encounter Bay have already banked a win after Myponga sadly forfeited for the second time this season.
