Goolwa’s Aquafest is back!

COVID forced the Goolwa Aquatic Club Speedboat committee to cancel the event in 2020, 2021 and April 2022 but the rip-roaring event will return on the weekend of 22.and 23 October.

The committee describes the weekend as full of the sights and sounds of beautiful vintage, classic and modern race and speedboats strutting their stuff at the Goolwa Aquatic Club on Barrage Road.

The audience will see vintage wooden hydroplanes, skiffs, classic old wooden race, and ski boats, plus fibreglass classic race and ski boats.

There will be demonstration runs by at least one blown alcohol boat.

Admission to the two-day event is free.

On Saturday morning the boats will practice as they please.

Saturday afternoon will see each boat group have a four-lap demo run.

Sunday is a full day of back-to-back heats with spirited driving demonstrations.

If the weather permits there will be a hot rod and classic car display and vintage aeroplane flyovers buzzing the crowd.

When not in the water the boats will be on display in the pit area and accessible to the public who want a closer look.

The event is fully catered and family friendly with food stalls and the lawned banks available for spectators to set up and get comfortable.

The Goolwa Aquatic Club is licensed, and award-winning café, Bombora on the River, is adjacent for those that want to eat in style.

Next year’s Aquafest will return to its traditional time in early April.
