The new Granite Island Causeway has been officially named Kaldowinyeri Yarluki, which translates to Dreaming Track.
The name officially came into effect on 19 January, when it was published in the South Australian Government Gazette.
The City of Victor Harbor says Kaldowinyeri Yarluki is an important and iconic landmark in Victor Harbor, linking Granite Island to the mainland.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport chose a name that acknowledges Granite Island's cultural significance to traditional owners, the Ngarrindjeri people of the Ramindjeri nation.
The name complements the sculpture at the start of the causeway and the artwork along its length, which also acknowledge traditional owners.
The City of Victor Harbor hopes that visitors to Granite Island will reflect on the history of First Nations peoples and their connection to local land and waters.
