Grant for bushfire and biodiversity resilience

Resilient Hills and Coasts has been awarded a $100,000 grant to look at the best interventions in bushfire risk while balancing biodiversity outcomes.

The project will be delivered across six Local Government Areas – Adelaide Hills, Alexandrina, Kangaroo Island, Mount Barker, Victor Harbor and Yankalilla.

This regional scoping and evaluation project will identify the best interventions to apply in communities across the six councils, to balance bushfire risk and biodiversity outcomes.

It will include engagement with landholders and organisations across the region.

Resilient Hills and Coasts is a collaborative, cross-sector partnership between councils, Landscape Boards, Regional Development Australia and the state government.

It works to strengthen the resilience of communities, economies and natural and built environments to a changing climate.

The partnership developed the Regional Climate Change Adaptation Plan for the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island region of South Australia, and is now implementing the plan.

Resilient Hills and Coasts is one of eleven Regional Climate Partnerships across South Australia.

The partnership has generated significant momentum, knowledge and practical on-ground action by working together.

Its achievements so far include coastal hazard mapping and adaptation initiatives with Kangaroo Island and Alexandrina Councils.
