The Yankalilla library is one of 14 across the state to be awarded Libraries Board Innovation Funding for an exciting new community connection project.
The brief asked libraries to think a little differently about how to meet their community’s needs and to collaborate to come up with an innovative project.
The Yankalilla library’s project is called Common Threads: Celebrate and connect with your Yankalilla Library and community.
It is an innovative audio-visual project fulfilling the library’s mission to connect and serve the local community.
It has invited the community to curate, create and connect with a series of filmed portraits of local personalities representing the district’s diverse history, culture and talent.
The project will broaden the library’s digital outreach and showcase Yankalilla’s new library facilities and services.
The library plans to involve the community from the conception of each portrait by collaborating with community organisations to find previously untold stories from the local area.
People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to nominate interviewees, conduct interviews and help in the production and editing of each film.
The library will host a public launch screening to celebrate all participants and their achievements.
The library will also host the Common Threads collection of short films across digital and physical platforms.
