Grants open to help build community connections

Grants of up to $10,000 are now available for not-for-profit organisations looking to improve community participation, social and emotional wellbeing, and quality of life for South Australians.

The grants can help community organisations across the state to offer expanded programs, projects and facilities, in turn reducing social isolation and supporting community wellbeing.

They can be used to improve an area of service or a facility by making it possible to buy new equipment, resources, supplies or infrastructure.

Previous successful applicants have included Surf Life Saving SA for an aquatics program to help Ukrainian refugees settle into life in SA, and Yarredi Services for a kitchen upgrade, plus painting, tiling and floor coverings in their community program delivery space.

Other examples of successful applications include upgrades to bathrooms, establishing community gardens, installing access ramps or air conditioning to community spaces or upgrading furniture to include more shared and inclusive spaces in community meeting places.

Minister for Human Services Nat Cook says the grant funding is prioritised to support people and communities experiencing disadvantage or other vulnerability.

“With the current cost of living pressures, more and more people are relying on not-for-profit community organisations for their social interaction and support.

“Whether it be to fund community activities, purchase new equipment or improve a facility, I encourage all South Australian not-for-profits and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to take this opportunity to apply for a grant and bring their next great project to life.

“Strong and supportive communities are crucial to the fabric of society and from my own personal experiences, I appreciate the value of caring communities and neighbourhoods that help breakdown isolation and increase resilience.”

The Grants SA 2022-2023 Minor Round is open now, with applications closing at 3pm on Thursday 25 May.

Funding guidelines and information on how to submit applications, are available online.
