Grass fire near Clayton Bay

A grass fire believed to have been started by an angle grinder yesterday, Thursday 16 November, has caused damage to three structures at Point Sturt near Clayton Bay.


The impacted structures include a caravan, shed with solar batteries inside and overhead awning with solar panels equalling estimated damage of $50,000.


There are currently no reported injuries from this incident.


Nine CFS crews with approximately 35 firefighters supported by six aircraft were able to quickly get the fire under control, saving nearby houses.


Crews remained on scene into the evening to continue working to extinguish the blaze and mop up the property.


With most of the state now in fire danger season CFS reminds the community to remain vigilant when using power tools throughout the season.
