Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board Grassroots Grants will open for application on Tuesday 7 March to support local communities.

The grants provide funding to individual landholders, volunteers, First Nations, schools, community organisations, and not-for-profit groups working locally for environmental and primary production benefits.

Board chair David Greenhough says he is delighted to announce $250,000 in funding is available across the region, which may be used to kick start a new project, or build on an existing one.

“The grants help the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board to build strong partnerships and deliver outcomes which support the community to deliver projects that contribute to key landscape priorities and become the best land stewards they can be.

“Funding will be awarded on merit to projects that demonstrate the best value for money and delivery of outcomes that address the priorities in the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Plan 2021-2026.”

There are two tiers of grants available - small grants up to $3,000, and larger grants for projects up to $20,000.

In the last three years, over $700,000 has been distributed to more than 100 environmental and primary production projects in the Hills and Fleurieu region.

Projects have ranged from revegetating creek-lines and dune systems, using First Nations land management learnings to restore threatened swamps, installing weather stations, monitoring threatened species, and planting out insectaries to encourage beneficial insect predators to vineyards.
