Great end to 2023 for Strathalbyn Panthers in Hills Softball

Hills Softball Association ‘A’ Grade Women (Strathalbyn v Hahndorf)

Strathalbyn opened the batting with a safe hit to Kim Cutting who with great base running made her way home after hits to Bianca Pash and Peyton Daniels but they were unable to get any more runners home with Hahndorf’s Rylee Zobel taking a catch at right field, an out at second and an out at first. Hahndorf’s first turn at bat had hits to Megan Williams and Mia Oats-Willis but they were left stranded on base with a great relay from right fielder Tash Mayes to pitcher Daniels to third baser Kathy Pash for the tag, Daniels fielding a bunt and throwing to first and short stop Cutting taking a catch to end the innings scoreless.

The second dig for Strath was three up three down with two K2’s to Hahndorf’s pitcher/catcher combo of Tahlia Larosa to Chloe Davis and another catch to Zobel. Three up three down for Hahndorf too as Strath’s pitcher/catcher combo of Daniels to B. Pash got a K2 and Kathryn “Buttsy” Milne took a catch at second and quickly threw to Cutting to catch the runner out for a double play.

Strath had a few hits and gained a walk in the third but runners were left stranded on base without scoring as Hahndorf made another K2, an out at first and an out at second. Hahndorf were three up three down again with a K2, an out at first and Tess Norris playing her base at first for the third out.

The three up three down theme continued in the fourth for Strath with a K2, a catch taken at short stop by Abbie Bastian and an out at first. It was the night for three up three down with Hahndorf held scoreless again by centrefielder Emily Eglitis taking a catch, another out at first and a sharp catch taken by K. Pash.

Strath were again held scoreless in the fifth with an out at first, a back handed catch by Bastian and a catch taken at first. A walk gained by Breanna Luxon got Hahndorf on base and she was brought home by Alia Jackson who hit a home run to right field before Strath could make an out at first, Daniels taking a catch and Norris also taking a catch.

Strath now behind on the board needed to get some hits and bring some runs in and they did with hits to Daniels, Eglitis, Ashlee Peterson and a three baser to K. Pash that all helped to bring in five runs with Hahndorf’s new pitcher Zobel taking a catch, a K2 and an out at first to end the innings. It was up to Hahndorf to now add runs but with great defensive fielding by Strath they were held scoreless again with two outs at first and a K2 to end the innings and the game with Strathalbyn coming out on top 6 runs to Hahndorf 2.

Hills Softball Association ‘C’ Grade Women (Strathalbyn v Pirates)

Strathalbyn were up to bat first and started with a safe hit to Monica Spriggs who then stole bases and home with Rebecca Sims also getting a hit and drawing the error to get to second safely, stealing to third and being brought home by a hit to Amber Crawford with Pirates pitcher/catcher combo of Vanessa Silvy to Michelle Stewart getting a K2, an out at first and a tag out at home. Walks were gained by Pirates so with some good base running and a safe hit to Silvy they brought home three runs with Strath’s pitcher/catcher Sims to Crawford making a K2 and two outs at first ended the innings.

Strath were held scoreless in the second with Kelly Roe having the only safe hit and Pirates making three K2’s to send them from the diamond. Strath returned the favour with Roe making an out at first and Lavinia Seymour taking two catches at second base to stop Pirates from adding to their tally.

The third dig for Strath included safe hits to Seymour, Shannon Patton and Spriggs with Amy Bailey hitting a two baser which combined with some great base running helped bring in six runs with Pirates making another two K2’s and an out at first. Strath held Pirates scoreless again in their turn at bat with an out at first and K2’s to new pitcher Bailey to Crawford.

Another two base hit to Bailey and a three bagger to Sims put them in scoring positions and both came home to add two runs to the score before Pirates could make another two outs at first and an out at second base to end the innings. Pirates came back in looking to make some runs but were unable to with Strath’s pitcher Bailey doing her job gaining two K2’s before time and game were called with Strathalbyn taking the points with 10 runs to Pirates 3.
