Reigning premier McLaren won their way through to the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) Grand Final at Victor Harbor next Sunday after their thrilling five-point win in the preliminary final yesterday against Mount Compass. McLaren will take on Willunga in a rematch of the 2020 decider. It was a tight and tough encounter with McLaren prevailing 2.2 (14) to Mount Compass 1.3 (9). Sheena Peters kicked both goals for the Eagles while Taylah Eastwood kicked Mount Compass’ only major. Tiffany Copley, Layla Rogers, Ally Bailey, Sophia Flanagan-Sjoberg and Tessa Cunningham were best for McLaren. Mount Compass was best served by Amy Taylor, Demi Sharp, Linda Shute, Eastwood and Megan Tilby.
Goolwa/Port Elliot won the under 17 girls preliminary final following a 15-point win against Yankalilla. Goolwa/Port Elliot started well to lead by 20 points at quarter time.Yankalilla reduced the margin to 14 points at halftime but neither team could score a goal in the second half as the Magpies prevailed 5.4 (34) to 3.1 (19). Layla Woods kicked two goals for the Magpies and Tasiah Wright also kicked two goals for Yankalilla.
