The Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA) has shared kerbside waste collection statistics from the 2022/23 financial year.
The results show the community's ongoing commitment to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.
Green waste has been the standout performer, with Food Organics Green Organics (FOGO) collection increasing by 19 per cent across the region.
General waste collected decreased by 4 per cent, but there was also a slight decrease in recycling collected of 0.2 per cent.
Total diversion from landfill increased by 3 per cent.
The City of Victor Harbor has claimed the Fleurieu rubbish crown, with the highest increase of waste diverted from landfill, compared to other councils.
Compared to the previous financial year, it recorded a 20 per cent increase to FOGO; a 4 per cent increase in waste being diverted from landfill; and an 8 per cent decrease in general waste.
Its recycling declined by 1 per cent, with a total of 1,642 tonnes of materials recycled.
FRWA encourages Fleurieu residents to boost landfill diversion by putting food scraps in the green FOGO bin.
This includes meat, seafood and bones, egg shells, cheese, yoghurt, tea bags and coffee grounds, fruit and vegetables, bread and baked goods.
