Two Fleurieu vineyards have taken top honours at the prestigious 2024 national Halliday Wine Companion Awards.
Bleasdale Vineyards in Langhorne Creek has been crowned winery of the year and two of its wines were named varietal winners.
McLaren Vale’s Yangarra Estate Vineyard Old Vine Grenache took out wine of the year.
Bleasdale’s 2021 The Iron Duke Cabernet Sauvignon was again named Cabernet Sauvignon of the Year, and its 2021 Wellington Road Shiraz Cabernet took out the Shiraz/Cabernet Blend of the Year title.
The Iron Duke Cabernet Sauvignon has won back-to-back Cabernet Sauvignon of the Year for the 2020 and 2021 vintages, the first time any Cabernet Sauvignon has won this award in consecutive years.
Bleasdale was among 10 Australian wineries shortlisted for Winery of the Year, from a total of 1200 wineries that submitted wines to the 2024 edition of the Halliday Wine Companion.
Announcing the awards, the Halliday selection team has paid tribute to Bleasdale winemaker Paul Hotker.
“He and his team are relentless in their determination to work magic.”
