Community information sessions to discuss the future of the Encounter Bikeway will be held on site in the next few weeks.
The City of Victor Harbor wants feedback on the three options it has developed for improving the Encounter Bikeway from Hindmarsh Road to the Alexandrina Council boundary.
The bikeway is a 31.5km multi-purpose trail that follows the coastline between Victor Harbor and Goolwa.
The community and the council have flagged the need to realign the trail section between Hindmarsh Road and the boundary for more than five years.
Some of the key issues identified include: difficult cycling conditions east of Hindmarsh River; a ‘problematic’ section of the bikeway at Kleinigs Hill; and counterintuitive use of residential streets between Kleinigs Hill (Adelaide Road) and the boundary.
The three options developed for improving the bikeway from Hindmarsh Road aim to improve safety and enjoyment for many years to come.
Option 1 is to follow coast-front roads and reserves; option 2 is to follow the rail corridor; and option 3 would retain the existing alignment with improved signage, using the secondary road network for the whole of the project area.
The council says the outcome could also be a combination of options, as there are many points where the alignments cross-over.
The project team will host community information drop-in sessions on the bikeway at Hayward Court on Saturday 23 October, from 7am to 9am and from 11am to 1pm.
Further sessions will be held at Olivers Parade on Saturday 6 November from 7am to 9am and from 11am to 1pm.
Full details of all three options are on the council website, where feedback can also be given.
The survey closes at 5pm on Friday 12 November.
