Have you seen this swamp wallaby around Moana or Seaford?

Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue is asking residents of Seaford and surrounding suburbs to keep an eye out for a swamp wallaby.

The Swamp Wallaby has been spotted by several people around Moana and Seaford

The animal rescue groups says, "Over the last few days we have received many reports of a Swamp Wallaby, initially spotted on the Esplanade in Moana and then yesterday on Grand Boulevard in Seaford."

"Swamp Wallabies are not native to this area and we are unsure how he ended up there."

"However, attempting to catch an adult wallaby or kangaroo is very dangerous, to the humans who try to catch them but also to the animal itself."

"Macropods can suffer from a condition called Capture Myopathy where the stress of capture causes their muscles to break down, lactic acid to build up and vital organs to shut down.

"This can mean a slow and painful death for the animal."

"If you spot this wallaby please DO NOT attempt to catch him."

Please contact our hotline on 0435 056 252 or message our page.

Please also drive with extra care, especially with reduced visibility from the rain, to try and keep this boy safe until he get to where he needs to be."
