Alexandrina Council is asking for feedback on a proposed lease that would see the top floor of the Goolwa Aquatic Building occupied by Fulham Funerals.
The ground floor of the Barrage Road building is home to the Goolwa Aquatic Club and Bombora’s on the River.
The upper floor of the business has been vacant since the Fleurieu's restaurant closed in 2020.
Council asked for Expressions of Interest in using the venue during the 2020/2021 financial year, but no tenant was secured.
Information on the proposed lease is available via the mysay.alexandrina.sa.gov.au site.
The lease would run for 15 years with five yearly reviews.
Fulham Funerals plan to use the site as a waterfront ‘reflection room’ rather than a funeral home.
The information on the mysay website describes a reflection room as ‘an area that provides space for a gathering of mourners before or after a funeral service or sometimes in place of it, at a venue to eat, drink and share memories of their loved one, meditation, celebration, prayer or quiet reflection’.
They anticipate spending $75 000 to paint and fit flooring and audio and visual equipment in the site.
Feedback can be provided via the mysay website, or a hard copy of the survey can be completed at the Goolwa or Strathalbyn Council offices.
Interested people can also send feedback by mail to the CEO, Alexandrina Council, PO Box 21, Goolwa SA 5214.
Submissions will close at 5pm on Friday 7 October.
