Help at hand for Fleurieu farms

The June long weekend will see a hay convoy travelling to help out farmers in the Fleurieu region who are experiencing drought conditions.

The Fleurieu Hay Run has been organised by Need for Feed Australia, in conjunction with Lions Club of Goolwa and the Lions Club of Victor Harbor & Port Elliot.

Deliveries will be made Monday 9 June, with limited stocks available free of charge to commercial farmers within a 100km radius of Goolwa. Farmers can register online.

A fundraising dinner will be held to support the Need for Feed cause on Sunday 8 June at the Encounter Bay Football Club.

Founder Graeme Cockerill will speak about the work done the start in 2006, in response to the Millennium Drought. Reserve a place via trybooking.

Meanwhile, the City of Victor Harbor says there has been strong uptake of its Farm Business Support Grant program.

Launched in April, the program offers grants of up to $2,500 towards power bills for water pumping for livestock; water, feed, fodder and other farm supplies; or freight expenses for water or feed.

Information on how to apply for the grant and how to find other support can be found on the council website.
